Our Mission
To bring people to Jesus and Membership to His family. To develop them to Christlike Maturity and equip them for Ministry in the church and in life. This is our Mission in the world in order to Magnify God’s name. Our foundation is the Word of God and we believe it in its entirety. We believe we can do what it says we can do, be what it says we can be, and have what it says we can have!
Church History
St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church is believed to have been formed in 1868 by former slaves on property in what was then known as the “Tabernacle-Gift” community near Covington, Tennessee. Recorded historical data shows that title to a 0.75 acre tract of land was officially acquired on October 7, 1850 for $15.00.
Through the years, the church has been blessed by God through the faithful leadership of Pastor Dexter G. Moragne, who has served as Senior Pastor since May 1989. Under his leadership, membership and ministries have grown like no other period in the church’s history. After a devastating fire in 1990, the congregation rebuilt — and in 2021 the Community Resource Center was renamed the Dexter G. Moragne Family Life Center in his honor.
